Clear aligners are typically recommended for adults, but they can still be a viable option for adolescents with mild to moderate cases of crooked, gapped, or overcrowded teeth as well as various types of bite issues. Many teenagers are uncomfortable with the prospect of wearing metal braces, which is why our in-house orthodontist may offer Clear Aligners as a more discreet solution. The basic process for Clear Aligners Teen is the same as regular Clear Aligners . A series of aligners are created based on digital impressions and scans of the patient’s mouth, with each aligner being a different step of the treatment. The aligners are made out of a clear plastic that is virtually invisible when worn against the teeth.
Where Clear Aligners Teen differs is that each aligner has a blue compliance indicator that changes color as it stays in the mouth. By checking this aligner (and keeping an eye on the teeth themselves to see the progress being made over time), parents can confirm that their child is wearing their aligners for the necessary 20-22 hours every day.
The treatment will be complete after the teen has finished wearing each clear aligner. At that point, a retainer can be placed.
The blue compliance indicator is one of the biggest differences between regular Clear Aligners and Clear Aligners teen. Teenagers are typically more prone to forgetting to wear their aligners than adults, so being able to keep track of their compliance can help improve the odds of a successful treatment.
Clear Aligners Teen also has one other important difference: more aligners are made for the process. This is done under the assumption that teenagers are more likely to misplace or break their aligners. By making sure there are extra aligners already available, it is much easier to keep the treatment on schedule, as there will already be a replacement on hand should something go wrong.
